Holbox, meaning “black hole” in Maya, was founded in 1873 by the descendents of the pirates who took refuge there. The island is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, nature and an environment of relaxation. The island invites you to rest and enjoy its tropical climate, crystal clear waters, marine life and white beaches.
JOSE LIMA'S CASAMAYA IN HOLBOX,has been renovated and made into a 5 room small hotel.
All rooms have complete tile baths, hot and cold water, each room has it's own air conditioning equipement, cable t.v. roof fans, good quality beds and we have decorated them with mexican and mayan art.
On our gardens we have coconut palms and we have placed garden furniture so you can have meals outside, also we have beach chairs and hammocks for your pleasure.
We have a large room named DIEGO RIVERA AND FRIDA KAHLO where we have game tables, a small kitchen with all utensils so you can do light cooking, there is a cable television set with disc and film player, we have some films of our own and there is a film rental in town.
We have gathered for our guests books and paintings, about MAYA CULTURE, MEXICAN HISTORY, MEXICAN ARQUITECTURE, and MEXICAN PAINTERS.
The casamaya, is inside town so you can walk to nearby restaurants, bars and stores. There are convenience stores in town where you can buy fresh fruits and cold drinks and beer.
A nice pastime is to go to the town square in the evening to see the children and young people play and have fun.
We try very hard to make your stay in CASA MAYA as pleasant as possible.
